  • Hotel Dunas de Oyambre
    Impressive building all in stone,recently designed in the rustical style of the contry houses of the area. Classical architecture lines,all-in-stone facçade with wooden galleries,the hotel is surrounded by a large park,all encircled itself with a stone wall.From there you can see,the Natural Park of Oyambre a striking enclave.At the bottom,the sumptous view of the Peaks of Europe,stands out at its zenith. The hotel is located on top of a hill,in a rustical area.500m far from the coast betwen,both beaches Comillas and Oyambre,10 km from San Viente de la Barquera,16 km from Santillana del Mar and 48 km from Santander.Nearby the hotel lays the Oyambre beach with its golden sand a long stretch of 2 km.On this Spanish beach ,landed for the first time a transatlantic airplane,the world wide well-known “yellow bird” on its way from old orchard (U.S.A),that was in1929.
  • Comillas
    With the burst out of a glittering aristocracy,attracted to Comillas, splendid mansions sprung up,all around the town.On some of them fashion and luxury has faded away.
  • Pontifical University
    No visits.On top of Cardosa hill,a jesuit friend of Comillas Marquis convinced him to build a seminarist university,as well as a multi-cultural center.Martorell drew the draft,the fundation started in1883.It took 3 years to achieve in part the masterpiece. Actually,Antonio Lopez ,the patron didn't live to see the end of the story.
  • Pardo Ocejo Manor
    Also called Doña Beatrice house ,on the crossroads in Comillas,in front of the Philipinas tavern.Don Antonio Lopez' first important home.The King Alphonso XIII spent there,summer 1882-1883 .In brief,large manor house,2 stories high,canopy arches on the ground floor.Superb door.
  • Sobrellano Palace
    Three neogotic sections designed by Martorell.On the spot where his humble life begun,was erected a magnificient palace.That was in1881.some biographers see in that decision a freudian flash-back to his origins.In the hall,an impressive mural representing Don Antonio Lopez standing by the king.Next to the palace,a neogotic chapel,as well as the Lopez family's pantheon,another masterpiece of Martorell,1878. The furniture was designed by Gaudi,the family vault,all in marble achieved by Llimona and Vallmitjana.
  • The Parish Church
    On the crossroads of father Paramo and father Nieto.Dates from the XVIII century,holds”the Christo del Amparo” in its custody.
  • Colasa Inn, Town Hall
    Two different examples of the local architecture(stone walls,sturdy lines,wooden balconies)The Town Hall shows large vaults and the coat of arms,representing the 5 archbishops,from Comillas.
  • Cementery and Old Church
    The gothic chapel belongs to the XV Century. Overstanding the wall of the graveyard, ”the Angel of Death” sculpture by Limona Bruguera(1864-1934). Note some graves designed by Doenech I Montaner.
  • Antonio Lopez statue
    First marquis of Comillas 1890, designed by Domenech I Montaner.
  • "El Capricho de Gaudí"
    The General Solchaga street will lead you up to” the capricho”. Probably the most original creation you will find around Cantabria. Maximo Diaz Quijano, related to the Lopez' family, ordered a young Gaudi the plans. Thework was undertaken by the architect Cascante Colom.
  • Comillas Harbour
    Notice the ”Whale stone”.
  • Beaches
    On Comilas beach, no danger to fear.
  • “The Duque”
    Located on the San Jose park, looks like a fairy tale mansion. The duc of Almodovar paid for its construction.
  • La Coteruca
    The foundation begun in 1870. Two towers,on a red faccade.
  • English House
    Located on the road to La Rabia,dates from last century. By the lake, the most remarkable gardens.
